Kate Womack – The Stellar Origin of Chemical Elements

19th May 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Everything around us is made up of chemical elements. But where do these elements come from? The answer: stars. The stars that we observe in the night sky undergo many different processes in order to produce the elements. This talk will give you a whistle stop tour of the different types of stars in the galaxy and the processes that occur to produce the chemical elements.

Kate is a first year PhD student researching in the field of galactic chemical evolution. Kate completed her undergraduate degree and MSc at the University of Hull where she researched in the field of stellar nucleosynthesis. Kate also regularly participates in outreach work to local schools and colleges to inspire the next generation of astrophysics students. In her spare time she  enjoys climbing and embroidery.
