[CANCELLED] Introduction to Astronomy – RSPB St.Aidan’s
21st April 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm
**SOLD OUT – Sorry!**
Ever looked up at a star-lit sky and wondered about the stories of the stars above? Well now is your chance to find out more!
Join us at RSPB St Aidan’s for an introduction to astronomy, led by the Wakefield and District Astronomical Society. This beginner’s guide will help you learn your Saturn’s from your satellites, with experts on hand to point out amazing astronomical features such as planets, constellations and galaxies.
After an introduction to stargazing, we will take you on an interactive tour of the night sky over the nature park.
Timed right, we may get a glimpse of passing satellites such as the International Space Station and if we’re really lucky we may witness the Lyrid meteor shower.
There will be a range of telescope types, binoculars and optical equipment so you can get the best views possible. There’s also an opportunity to get your questions answered and receive hands on advice.
A hot drink is also included but we do advise that warm clothing is essential. We recommend this event is suitable for children 11+.
Note: Although we cannot guarantee a clear sky, we’ve done our best to achieve a high quality experience- even if we can’t go outside!
In the case of cloud or bad weather, we will have an indoor introduction to stargazing session and keep an eye out for gaps in the cloud cover.
