Our Society was started by a few amateur astronomers from the district who got together via the Stargazers Lounge forum and arranged some local star gazing sessions. Over 6 months numbers swelled, bringing a vast and varied range of personalities, equipment and knowledge of the night sky alongside. The society has continued to go from strength to strength.
We host a number of guest speaker meetings throughout the year during the stargazing season, as well as several public outreach sessions covering both solar and stellar observing.
The society is a member of the Federation of Astronomical Societies, and is governed by a constitution-bound committee with an AGM held annually at which society members may vote on decisions for the forthcoming year.
