About Us

Wakefield and District Astronomical Society

Welcome to the Wakefield and District Astronomical Society Website

Our Society was started by a few people who got together on the Star Gazer's Lounge forum wanting to get together for a few local star gazing meets, after about 6 month's there were a few of us now meeting up locally who all had a different range of scopes and knowledge of the night sky. Since then, the society has continued to go from strength to strength.

Keep an eye on our SGL events thread for the latest updates on our events.

Our next society meeting is Thursday 1st of December.

We welcome Chris Lintott back to WADAS once again. This promises to be a great night out!Wakefield and District Astronomical Society is excited to announce that on 1st December they will once again be hosting the BBC Sky at Night and Stargazing Live presenter Chris Lintott as a guest speaker. Chris is the primary presenter on the programme having previously been co-presenter with the late Patrick Moore and will be giving a talk on "Bangs, crashes and planets: Astronomy in 2016"

The society is thrilled to have such a prominent figure in astronomy and UK science return to Wakefield. Chris is a fantastic speaker and the society promises the talk will be fascinating and will close what has been a great year for the society which has enjoyed terrific guest speakers and events in the local community throughout 2016.

The talk will be held at Horbury Academy at 7:30pm and is open to all members of the public who will be fully welcomed whatever your level of interest in astronomy. For non-members of the society there will be a £5 charge. Entry will include one free raffle ticket.
